Transportation for All Children

Currently, there are approximately 290 registered sex offenders in the city of Niagara Falls, NY. Currently School Board regulations state that any student that lives less than 1.5 miles away from his or her school will not be afforded transportation.
Our children start their schooling at the tender age of 5 years old and are expected to walk to school in sometimes the harshest of weather conditions. While some children have luxury of being able to be accompanied by their parents or another adult, what about those with working parents and limited resources? Our kids could just as easily be lured away from safety on their journey to school. As parents and guardians in this city, we should be able to take comfort knowing that our children are safe and watched over while work to provide for them. We must do all we can to protect our kids and invest in them as they are truly our future leaders.
