Stop Landlords from discriminating against disabled and unemployed tenants.
Stop Landlords from discriminating against disabled and unemployed tenants.

Within Northern Ireland housing rights continue to fail to protect the most vulnerable members of our society. Landlords actively discriminate against unemployed, and disabled applicants for rental properties even if they provide proof of an excellent tenant history, adequate savings and have evidence of being a good tenant in other properties. The failures to support and help assist those with visual impairments and other long term disabilities has also been brought to light during the pandemic. Many estate agencies do not have user friendly applications for people with visual impairments. I have been acting on behalf of a friend during the pandemic to assist in him acquiring a private rental property but on many many occasions landlords openly state they do not accept unemployed applicants. I believe in this day and age anyone regardless of disability or employment status who can prove they can afford to rent a property should be allowed to apply when 1 in 5 people have disabilities. I am creating this petition to create awareness around injustices, and a lack of equal opportunities in letting and estate agencies. I hope that by highlighting this I can encourage changes that will be of benefit to people who are unemployed or with disabilities or sudden sicknesses can have equal opportunities to avail of housing as employed professionals.
