It's a reality for many people who lives in London that the sirens of certain services (as NHS between others) creates a high level of stress and noise pollution. Very often people's reaction is to cover their ears, as the screeching sound is unbearable.
These high pitch on a high volume sirens contribute to create discomfort and stress in an already fast paced city. This doesn't happen in another european big cities and neither form another services, as they still have powerful sirens but with a lower pitch, so the sound will be still accomplishing its function without damaging our ears. This is not stating to lower the volume, but just the pitch (as the ones from the Fire Brigade, or Metropolitan Police).
