Make Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis Free on the NHS for PCOS sufferers

Polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects 1 in 10 women. The condition has a number of difficult side effects, one of which is excess facial and body hair. I have started this petition asking NHS England to make laser hair removal available on the NHS for people who suffer from PCOS. Having PCOS is hard enough as it is - so let’s make life a little easier by not having to worry about excess hair on top of everything else we have to deal with.
Right now, laser hair removal and Electrolysis is not available on the NHS in England as it is seen as cosmetic. NHS Scotland have already taken the step to make it available on the NHS - now NHS England needs to follow in their footsteps. Women have suffered for years in silence with the effects of excess facial and body hair due to PCOS. Enough is enough.
Girls as young as 12 are being diagnosed and the mental health implications of this PCOS cannot be ignored. People with the condition often face bullying, trolling online and don’t want to go out in public for fear they haven’t “plucked or shaved” sufficiently.
There is NO cure for PCOS so let’s make the lives of PCOS sufferers better in whatever way we can. This is not a cosmetic issue, this is a well-being issue.
