Hello,

Thank you for clicking on this petition. For over 5 years I have been trying to get support for complex PTSD after a serious accident followed by a series of traumatic events that left me with severe depression and anxiety.

Initially the insurance provided me with support but it ran out and having been through a series of abusive and traumatic events I continued to struggle.

For 5 years I have been told to " go watch a movie" to cheer up, speak to mental health charities, self- refer and "keep trying".

Every single provider has rejected me for being too complex, stating that the risk of providing the standard 6 sessions and leaving me worse would be too high.

I have lost jobs and careers due to my mental health crashing after a severe flashback and other incidences and was left floating and am now at risk to lose another.

Even the trauma centre specialised in helping people like me would not help me due to lack of funding, as I live in the wrong postcode.

I finally was given one more assessment where a deflated professor stated he could not help me due to my new ASD diagnosis in addition to the now 5-year old untreated events requiring at least a year of help for which there was neither funding nor space. He told me the continuous cuts mean the outpatient clinic didn't even have a psychologist to help and that my only chance was to hope I won't get worse or find the money to afford a private specialist.

It is shocking to me that the NHS proudly proclaims mental health awareness, yet those in need that have been through more than one traumatic event are left to their own devices because we are too much effort.

This means I am unable to work full-time or more than one job without suffering intense consequences.

I want to keep working, I want to get better. And I am not alone, there are many like me out there that need to be heard.

Help people like me get the help they need so that we can work and be part of the community.

Stop cutting mental health funding and supplying tick box care.

Please increase funding and awareness for complex trauma cases and keep us safe and alive.

Introducing a care plan for complex cases by allowing for 6-12 months treatment sessions where they are recommended by a GP and psychiatrist can already make a world of a difference.
