Do you want to get life back to normal? I know I do. This may be part of the solution.

Research in Pakistan on 313 patients found that the odds of surviving COVID-19, were 4-fold higher with black cumin and honey. Their recovery was also faster. Here's the link: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.10.30.20217364v4

More research is needed, but if this mixture performs consistently well, it could be used cheaply in addition to other measures to reduce the strain of the current pandemic on the NHS.

One of the main reasons for life not getting back to normal is for fear that the number of sick patients will overwhelm the NHS.

To put these results into perspective, patients were only about 25% less likely to die with the expensive ITU drug tocilizumab currently used for COVID-19 (£768 for average dose, £1024 if they're above 90kg... which a lot of them are). How much do you think black cumin and honey would cost the NHS?

The NHS cannot afford to ignore the potential value of more natural food-based therapies any longer.

A therapy like this would also mean that you'd be able to give this treatment to everybody and not just the ones that stand more of a chance of surviving (as is currently done with tocilizumab due to its high cost).

Honey and black cumin are not the only example. This relates to a wider issue surrounding more natural/food-based therapies for disease prevention and treatment. In one study in New York, zinc supplementation was found to reduce risk of death or hospice transfer by 50%, when added to treatment with medicines (https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.02.20080036v1). Yet this is not currently being used in UK hospitals, most doctors don't even know about these trials.

The government should organise its own honey + black cumin trials... repeat the study from Pakistan with a larger sample size. Repeat the zinc study. Search for other effective foods/vitamins/minerals/herbs.

Going forward it should allocate more resources towards investigating the potential of certain foods/herbs for disease prevention and treatment. It should also find a way of ensuring doctors are up to date with the new research coming out on food-based therapies, by giving them time for this during working hours. We place our trust in these professionals, yet very few of them go home after a long day of work to read the latest research. They need a balanced lifestyle, so they remain uninformed.

People make food choices every day, so the risk that dietary habits could cause damage to a person's health is already present in everybody's life. In other words even if there are health risks from consuming honey, black cumin or zinc, these foods are not currently forbidden, therefore the level of risk associated with such food-based therapies is already somewhat deemed acceptable. Therefore, using these foods in severely ill patients would not present a health danger that would outweigh the health dangers brought by the COVID-19 virus, even without further trials.

It's a more efficient use of everybody's tax money and would yield a healthier world. It may turn out to be more effective and cheaper than only using novel man-made patentable chemicals.
