In Kent the largest number of difficult patients are those diagnosed with severe personality disorders They require large input from services and this cut will be unfruitful because they will now have no effective intervention for their problems

It is critical that this model of mental health care is available to help a significant percentage of people with a personality disorder.

It is very concerning to hear of this proposed cut. Therapeutic communities can considerably assist a good number of patients who otherwise go round the houses consuming considerable health and social service resources in revolving door fashion. I would urge the authority to do a careful cost analysis and seek consultation from Dr Mizen in Exeter who has saved her Trust some millions of pounds through her day treatment community.

Therapeutic Communities give people the support and therapy they need to live their lives. They offer long term engagement by others who have had similar experiences. Without them there is more reliance on crisis services, like ED and inpatient psychiatry.

What helps people in distress is the ability to gain support and be held by those who understand. We need more therapeutic communities, not fewer.

There are so few services for people who have a personality disorder. We cant afford to keep losing them.
