Problem
In February I have birth to my 2nd baby Elliott, Throughout my pregnancy I had extra growth scans as my first baby was born really small so they kept an eye on how Elliott was growing. Towards the end of my pregnancy it was decided I would be better having a c section. And so that was the plan. I had a few more scans after that and I remember sitting at a scan around 32 or so weeks and the lady was telling me how my baby was " waving " at me and he had his fingers and toes. When the time had come to have my section I had a scan 6 days before and was told he was perfect and growing perfectly and was ready!!! We went to meet our boy!! As I lay there paralyzed a lovely nurse asked me if I wanted her to get my baby's first pictures I said yes! I was so excited to have these pictures and I couldn't do it myself, She then came back over and I asked for my phone and she was reluctant to give it me, Then a midwife appeared from behind the curtain holding my baby boy she proceeded to tell me there were 2 problems she began with telling me my son had a slight tounge tie I hadn't a clue what this was so I become rather upset and she explained it was minor it could fix itself of they would fix it for him I then was told my baby was missing some of his hand and fingers!! My whole world fell apart in that operating theatre. I was discharged without any explanation I sat hating and blaming myself for months when I should have been enjoying my baby. I went down the legal route and demanded an explanation and that's when I heard one of the most heart breaking things I have ever heard... It is not routine for Them to check if a baby has fingers or toes and it is just by chance that it is picked up!! That yo me is NOT good enough! I want to try and change this and make it mandatory that they spend a little extra time on a scan to have a look properly at limbs, I want to try to prevent other parents going through what we went through.

Solution
I call for the NHS to change the scanning routine when it comes to limbs, fingers and toes! My son has a rare condition called Symbracadactly and it can be picked up on scans but it's not mandatory that they check. Please help me change this...

Personal story
in February I had my 2nd child Elliott, Throughout my pregnancy I had a lot of growth scans as my first baby was born really small they were keeping an eye on Elliott and his growth. I remember sitting at a scan around 32 weeks and they said " Aww look mum he has all of his fingers and toes and he is waving at you " I let out a sigh of relief and we went on from there.. Our baby was healthy growing beautifully and all his limbs were in place! It came to the end of my pregnancy and I had needed a c section I had a final scan the week before I went in for my section and it was decided my baby was ready and so we went in to meet our boy They asked if I wanted the nurse to take my phone over with the midwife and get some pictures of my baby for me and I said yes!! I was so excited to have these pictures and I couldn't do it myself, she came back round and I asked for my phone to see the picture of my baby and she declined. As I lay there paralyzed a midwife appeared from behind the curtain holding my baby she told me there were 2 problems and she proceeded to tell me my baby had a slight tounge tie I hadn't a clue what that was so I cried and was explained it was nothing at all it would fix itself or they could fix it so at this point I was like ok that wasn't so bad and then she said " he's also missing his digits and some of his hand " My whole world fell apart, I thought instantly " my baby is going to be bullied " " how can I protect him " " why didn't we know " etc we did go down the legal side of things for this as we were told our baby was fine and that's when we were told the worst thing i could have ever heard... It is not in anyway something they need to look for! They don't look for fingers and toes and they don't have to it is by chance they notice And to me that is not good enough! It's heart breaking in fact. I would like to spare another parent of guilt and hatred toward themselves because that's just what I done to myself and I could have had time to come to terms with my son's condition throughout my pregnancy. I call for the NHS to change they're scanning routine with limbs fingers and toes. Thank you got taking the time to read, Sharr and sign.
