Better access to services for drug addicts who suffer from mental illness

There is a huge lack in the healthcare service for those who suffer from mental illness and misuse drugs or alcohol. Many people lack the capacity to obtain help for their addiction due to mental illness and many are unable to obtain help for their mental illness because clinicians refuse treatment due to misuse of drugs/alcohol. It is a cycle of despair, particularly for the family who have to see their loved one ruin their life and try desperately to help them. The stigma surrounding those with addiction (which often also includes having mental illness) fuels abuse and exploitation of the ill as when they are having episodes they are filmed in the streets and posted all over social media to be ridiculed. There needs to be proper care and a pathway specifically for those who simultaneously suffer from mental illness and addiction to help ensure they have a chance at regaining a normal life and be a functioning member of society safe from harm from others and also from themselves.
