A petition to make breast cancer anatomical self examination model available to women.
Many women feel unconfident in their abilities to accurately self examine their breasts for unusual lumps. In the UK alone, more than 47% of women have proclaimed that they do not check their breasts regularly for signs of cancer. For some this is caused by forgetting, for others it is embarrassment, or lack of knowledge of what to look for. For this reason we should be educating our women on what to look out for and encouraging regular examinations. After all, it is common knowledge that the sooner cancer is found, the higher survival rate. Although there are many websites citing how to conduct and examination and what to look out for, as the breast is a naturally lumpy tissue, it is often difficult to distinguish what is a concerning lump and what is normal. Consequently, this petition promotes the availability of breast cancer anatomical self examination models. Hereby, at local doctors surgeries, hospitals, and medical centres, women should be able to attend a free class whereby they are able to be both orally explained how to conduct a self examination, as well as the opportunity to see/feel a physical model to know exactly what they should be looking out for.
