Fan importance should not continue to go unnoticed

Letter to
NHL & NHLPA
Background:
For the third time in 18 years the NHL is in the grips of a lockout. Under Bettman control, every time the union contract has come up for renewal a LOCKOUT has been the response.

And why not? “We recovered last time because we have the world’s greatest fans,” Bettman says. In other words, why should he care, the fans will still dish out their money.

After the '04/'05 lockout, fans rallied back with increased numbers. Even though the average cost of a game rose by 10% and most recently are close to 30% higher than they were pre-'04/'05 lockout.

As a fan of hockey, we have a very unique power unlike any other major sport. Over half the the NHL revenue is gained from the ticket sales (As compared to the NFL in which ticket sales account for less than 25%).

We need to exercise this power.

It doesn't matter if you are for the NHL or for the NHLPA. All that matters is that you are a hockey fan with a voice - or rather a pocket book.

When the NHL is back, show them why they are allowed to exist in the first place.

Petition:
We, the undersigned, request that the NHL and NHLPA end the lockout immediately.

If a new contract is not agreed to by the scheduled October 11 season start, the fans will lock out the NHL.

We will cancel our season seats, not buy any single game seats and not purchase any merchandise for any remainder of the 2012-2013 season. If the entire season is canceled, we will cancel our season seats, not buy any single game seats and not purchase any merchandise for the 2013-2014 season.
