Natalie Lessard started this petition to NHIAA

NHIAA ice hockey is an extremely competitive sport, for both boys and girls. But there is an obvious difference in skill level in girls hockey. For many years there has been an increasing attempt to build girls' developmental hockey from a young age. I think a good place to start is moving the high school girls championship game to a later time.

Currently, the NHIAA has set up championship games for boys division 1-3 and girls division 1 at the SNHU arena on March 14th, 2020. The girls play at 10:00 AM, D3 boys play at 12:15, D2 boys play at 2:45, and D1 boys play at 5:00 PM. I personally think that girls hockey should take the D2 boys time slot for the 2020-2021 season.

It makes sense because girls hockey is a D1 sport, so it should have a championship game before the other D1 team. Also, since it will be between two other games, it will have more exposure to people milling around the rink, waiting for their kids to leave or preparing for the game coming after. And since the game would be later, more student support would be provided for the girls program, which is already lacking.

The basic point is to provide more exposure for girls hockey, in turn increasing competition levels by inspiring young girls to start playing and developing early on. Please sign this petition to help girls hockey gain exposure and help improve our New Hampshire girls hockey program!
