New England Superior Oysters LLC has applied to install and operate a commercial farming and finishing operation for oysters and clams in Dover, NH: at Royals Cove, north of the Scammel Bridge. The proposed 1.32 acre operation would be viewable to residents along and near NH Route 4 and Clearwater Drive, with the operation beginning 945' from owner occupied shoreline. It would also occupy waterways used by area residents and visitors, making travel more difficult in the are of the Scammel Bridge.

Through this petition, we demand that New England Superior Oysters LLC relocate the proposed commercial farming and finishing operation for oysters and clams to a location that is both away from resident views and away from protected areas.

If the application to commercially farm and finish oysters and clams is approved as-is, the following will occur:

  • Diminish waterfront views that homeowners enjoy; reduce quality of life. There is an additional impact of noise from the operation, as a result of gas powered oyster tumblers.
  • Lower property values; homeowners lose savings and investment dollars. Views of commercial industry are less valuable than those of nature.
  • Risks to safety and navigation. The site is a launch point for kayaks and other vessels. Installing an oyster farm in proximity to the area is dangerous for boaters and water enthusiasts.
  • Damage to recreation. Farming and finishing at the proposed location would severely impact recreational activity. All boaters, including human propelled, will have to avoid the 1.3 acre farm. The Bellamy River's mouth is very small. All traffic will need to swerve west, and only go under the two underpasses that mark the channel.
