Michael Kayode started this petition to NFL

The original Cowboys were ex-slaves who were discriminated against and treated as second class citizens  on the western frontier. The use of them as a mascot without ever acknowledging the professions racist, dark past. Never once have the Dallas Cowboy organization paid tribute or honored the foundational black Americans who helped expand and build  this country. The use of the term Cowboys as a nickname for a football team is exploitative enough. But to erase the identity of who these men were is despicable. Help me write this 60 year old wrong by pressuring Dallas Cowboy sponsors to have them change their name.

By signing this petition you will be forcing the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys and America to come face to face with a chapter in their post-slavery history where African-Americans were not afforded the rights guaranteed them by the Emancipation proclamation. Hiding in plain sight this cultural appropriation turned exploitation has caused harm to the descendants of these brave frontier men who were the back bone of western expansion all the while being oppressed.

IF Jerry Jones wants to keep using oppressed black men from the post-slavery era as his teams mascot then he should at least break bread with these people's descendants.
