Emmilia Cisco started this petition to NFL and

February 3rd, 2019 Americans all over America watched super bowl commercials and some of them even watched the Football game that they play alongside them. The game was very slow and even won many awards due to how much the game sucked such as “fewest points by winning team”. If the game wasn’t disappointing enough, the Halftime Show definitely was. Not due to lack of talent, or terrible songs, but because of the lack of the song “Sweet Victory” from Spongebob. Spongebob is a deep part of American and meme culture that many young people have grown up watching. It had been teased that Maroon 5 would be playing “Sweet Victory” as a tribute to the creator of Spongebob Stephen Hillenburg who sadly passed away only a few months ago. There was even a petition that had gotten over 1.2 million signatures for “Sweet Victory” to be played. Instead we got a small clip of Squidward introducing the band.

Honestly while it is kinda silly and it isn't an incredibly tragic event it was still very disappointing. I grew up with Spongebob and it was my favorite show. I had a Spongebob tv, VCR, DVD player, blankets, pillows, and just about everything Spongebob. I was so excited to see it played at the super bowl and was very disappointed once I saw the short clip. I liked the songs Maroon 5 played, there was nothing wrong with them, but they will never amount to “Sweet Victory”. This year was already pretty disappointing for a lot of us. The game was very slow for the ones who actually watched it and only a few commercials were actually funny. Getting together for the super bowl has been a family tradition for years and it is treated much like a holiday. Hopefully next year, with the help of this petition, will be better all together and maybe they'll actually play “Sweet Victory”.

We were played this year at the 2019 super bowl. Let's change that for next year so that everyone can get the halftime show they deserve.
