We are petitioning to have the NFL Championship game, know has the Superbowl, to be aired on a Saturday in North America.

The Superbowl is a celebration for its fans, players, and our uniquely American way of life. You can argue that it is an unofficial National Holiday. Unfortunately, with it being held on a Sunday we are keeping this event from its true potential. Moving the big game back one day to a Saturday would allow more access to the festivities. The biggest reason the NFL hasn’t followed through with this obvious plan is that they believe they won’t get the television ratings that they pull in on a Sunday, doubtful, but the argument is great than that. Please consider these points made by Aaron Perlut for Forbes on February 3, 2011:

Super Bowl parties would become grander events, and party hosts would buy more food and beverages to accommodate a greater number of guests, thus benefiting grocery stores and other merchants.

Without having to work the next day, more non-sports fans would attend these parties. And if more non-football fans are watching, the networks gain more overall viewers, which translates into their ability to charge more for advertising. Just think how much better a $20 million commercial would be! Compelling and rich.

And finally, consider workplace productivity. Employers won't have to deal with employees strolling in late for work because they stayed up late watching the Super Bowl.

Furthermore, a Saturday game would open up viewing access globally. Say we air the game starting at 12:00 MST, we’ll use this as an example since the author lives in Colorado. That means the game stats at 11:00 west coast, 14:00 east coast, 09:00 in Hawaii, and 19:00 in London. Now our cousins across the Atlantic can participate. From France to Poland 20:00. Everyone gets to stay up late because the next day is Sunday.

The reasoning and logic behind a move to Saturday is substantial. As Football fans, casually fans, Americans, and Citizens of the World, we respectfully request that the Superbowl be moved to Saturday.
