Why this petition matters

Started by Daniel Lynch

The public is asking for The Washington Redskins to stand by their word to denounce racism, and most closely in reference to their branding – to once and for all denounce racism against Native Americans.

I am proposing a rebrand of the entire team, swapping out the incredibly divisive and offensive existing mascot/logo for a nice shiny red apple. Possibly even considering the idea of maybe dropping the word 'skins' entirely and just rebranding as The Washington Reds.

This switch will be incredibly simple, and for the general public nearly unnoticeable with the appropriate rebranding effort ( see my rough pitch which includes a suite of mock-ups for the logo change ).

Who doesn't like apples? It is even believed that Native Americans themselves enjoyed a nice crunchy crab apple – the only apple native to North America.

The Washington Red apple is a symbol of American culture, whatever that means. Some may even say the Washington Red apple is as American as apple pie.

The first apple orchard was brought to North America and planted in Boston by Reverend William Blaxton in 1625. Blaxton didn't get along with the Boston church and moved to the Pawtucket river, where he lived his life in friendship with the Narragansetts leaders Miantonomi and Canonchet, and Wampanoags leaders Massasoit and Metacomet ( though it should be noted that followers of Metacomet burned Blaxtons home to the ground later down the line after the whole apple thing so u know blaxton probably wasn't perfect also very american value ).

I believe that America deserves to support a football team that represents something a lot of people enjoy in America and not what makes a lot of Americans feel disrespected.

LETS SWITCH THIS MASCOT OUT FOR A #niceshinyredapple
