The Washington Redskins is the name of an NFL team, recently the owner Dan Snyder requested a brand new football stadium, which was met by Nike pulling their clothes from the online website. The term redskin was used as a practicality and racist stereotype to describe Native Americans. The term has no real meaning or value in today’s world other than a slur towards the native american people, polls have been taken and nearly 60% of the locals in Washington DC and surrounding areas have agreed that the name has to be changed, however Dan Snyder is insistent on that it isn’t racist, my whole family and I have always been offended and disgusted by the name and I assume many others in the Native community feel the same.
