The NFL is constantly evolving and changing, the next thing that needs to change, is the layout of how teams play each other.

Having divisions (and playing some teams twice) is now just unfair, and the best teams in the NFL are never able to meet in the Superbowl. Even worse, great teams (with higher winning records) don't even make it to the playoffs.

Having sat on this idea for over 2 seasons (with the solution), the 2019 season has proven that we need change. And it's time to implement it.

THE SOLUTION:

An NFL team has 16 games per season.

There are 32 NFL teams.

The simplest and fairest solution to this, would be each team would play each other once over the span of 2 seasons. With a Draw taking place once every 2 years, to determine who plays who (and in which order) over the 2 seasons.

The NFL would then be one table, teams 1-32, with W - L - D (as normal), and with Points for an against. With the top teams, going through to the playoffs, with the same perks for winning teams (top 4 spots) and wildcard option (top 8 spots).

The points for/against would be used to distinguish between teams with the same record. Meaning teams would be wise to keep scoring more points, rather than end a game earlier / run the clock down at the end.

Apart from a fairer schedule, where every team will have the same opportunity to get to the Superbowl, the NFL has a good excuse for one more event to happen. Like the FA cup draw in the UK (soccer).

This would also make a lot of the games more interesting and unpredictable. having more teams to prepare for, rather than having 3 teams that you prepare for twice.
