We the citizens of Oklahoma, in support of keeping our local station fair, unbiased, and sensitive to the viewers that support it hereby petition the station (News 9 OKC & Channel 4 News OKC) to add a notation to the following stories:

http://www.news9.com/story/29379280/okc-man-accused-of-attempting-to-transfer-hiv?fb_comment_id=898459083546331_899252046800368&comment_id=899252046800368#f149bbf0a78872a

and

http://kfor.com/2015/06/22/report-man-arrested-for-knowingly-transferring-hiv-after-allegedly-spitting-on-woman/

Notation A: That according to the CDC, HIV and AIDS are not transferable via saliva ( Reference: http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/transmission.html )

Notation B: That the present Oklahoma HIV/Aids laws do not include saliva as a transmittable source of HIV/AIDS (Reference: http://projects.propublica.org/tables/penalties )

Nobody is saying what this young man did was right or lawful, but the story should focus on the fact that he assaulted a young lady and not the fact that he had HIV.  We feel that the coverage has added to the stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS and could directly impact people who are currently living with HIV and AIDS.

There for we also ask that you:

A. Make an on air public apology to anyone this story may have offended or hurt.

B. Offer HIV sensitivity training to all of your reporters. We are loyal viewers of your stations and hope to stay that way. Thank you for listening.

Sincerely,

The Citizens of Oklahoma and the World.
