OC Families for Consumer Choice started this petition to Newport Beach City Council and

Community Choice Energy will bring Newport Beach families consumer choice, clean electricity, lower bills and millions of dollars for city programs.

Newport Beach has an opportunity to act on a revenue-positive energy program that could bring Newport Beach millions in new revenue streams, and save Newport Beach families millions of dollars a year. It also gives Newport Beach families and businesses a choice in energy providers other than our current monopoly Socal Edison (SCE), which is planning a 20% rate increase for all customers in 2020*.

On December 10, 2019, Irvine City Council unanimously voted to create a CCE Joint Powers Authority after multiple recommendations from their Green Ribbon Committee and Finance Commission agreed with their feasibility study, which found that in addition to bringing the city $10.6 million in annual net revenue and $7.7 million in annual savings for Irvine consumers, CCE will bring $120,000 in annual municipal electricity savings and achieve 100% clean energy by 2035 at no additional cost to customers.

On January 10, 2020, Irvine invited Newport Beach to respond by February. Mayor Will O'Neill told the Newport Beach Indy that he is open to discussions. He is demonstrating thoughtful leadership for Newport Beach.

Please sign this petition to tell Newport Beach's leaders to vote and study CCE now. We deserve a CHOICE. #YEStoChoice

*At the 2019 California Community Choice Association Conference, an energy industry expert, attorney and member of the Conference of California Public Utility Counsel said during a panel discussion that SoCal Edison is expected to implement a 20.1% rate increase across the board in 2020.
