Morag Cuthbert started this petition to Newham Mayor Roksana Fiaz and

Newham Mayor Fiaz, bring back the yellow visitor parking permits!

The Mayor of Newham, Roksana Fiaz, has introduced a digital only system of visitor car parking permits in our Borough, as part of the new MiPermit system. The physical yellow paper visitor parking permits will no longer be valid from end of 2022.

The current new system is not fit for purpose, for the following reasons:

1. Many of our fellow residents are not on-line and do not own a computer or a smart phone. Other residents have disabilities, poor language skills or cognitive skills, which prevent them using a computer or smart ‘phone.

2. Residents with no on-line access have no choice but to visit a library and seek assistance to purchase virtual permits. This is not possible for many.                  Once permits are purchased, they can only be activated on-line, making them impossible to use at home without a computer or smart ‘phone.

3. Residents seeking help via the London Borough of Newham Helpline are directed to the MiPermit Helpline. Residents seeking advice from MiPermit have been subjected to unreasonably long waiting times, and then told that it is not possible to purchase permits by telephone via the MiPermit System.

4. This new policy is discriminatory against many vulnerable members of our community. It is already preventing residents from having visitors arrive by car, and for many people car is their only possible method of transport.

5. This new system is the antithesis of Mayor Fiaz’s slogan “people at the heart of everything we do”.

By signing this petition you are demanding the return the option of the yellow physical visitor parking permits, for those residents who are either unable to use the new system, or who would prefer to use the physical option.
