We call on Newham council to demand 100% social housing on the Boleyn Ground, to serve the needs of the people of Newham and balance the private luxury housing being built in the borough - and to make the football pitch a public park.

There's an over-supply of 'luxury' apartments in London and a desperate shortage of genuinely affordable - not '80% of market rates' - homes. What we need is housing for people to live in, not 'investment opportunities' for the wealthy.

Newham is one of the poorest boroughs in London, that has seen a huge leap in "luxury" developments around the Olympic park, which is still 10 years away from finishing, with less than a third of its properties being affordable or for social rent. The borough puts its homeless in B&Bs in other boroughs, sometimes in other counties, with little or no hope of getting a property in the borough where their families or jobs are.

Because as a West Ham fan, I recognise that our community needs more housing development for low income workers and the poorer members of our community..

After living in Newham for years, I have been pushed out to barking & Dagenham by rent rises. Newham is not affordable anymore even for people in full-time relatively good administrative jobs.

It is disgraceful how local people are treated.

I'm signing because I am a season ticket holder at the Boleyn Ground and I've been a West Ham supporter since I was a child of 12 in 1961. I will be so sad when the ground closes, but I can think of no more fitting tribute to an icon of working-class leisure than seeing it provide much needed social rented housing. It will be a terrible legacy and a snub to all those generations of working-class people who have supported the irons through thick and thin to see it turned into an enclave for the wealthy.

We need more social housing and genuinely affordable housing to stop London becoming an incredibly boring, gentrified place to live.
