Black history is an integral part of Canada’s history one to which Newfoundland and Labrador as a province is connected to. Currently though Black History Month and Black History as a whole are subjects that are missing in the curriculum of the Newfoundland and Labrador English and French school systems. It is unfortunate that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are not only unaware of their connection to this history but also the impact numerous Black people and Black Canadians have had on the History of the world. This petition is to ask that these schools boards amend the curriculum to include Black History and celebrate Black History Month in their classrooms. This will be a pivotal step in breaking down a system of institutional racism and prejudice because of you are not educated on the injustices that exist you can not effectively fight them to create and equal and equitable society that supports all its citizens especially those of colour.  So please lend your name and voice to this cause and ask our school systems to take a step in the right direction.
