Exclude Third Year Students from Newcastle Staff Strikes
All third year students should not be subjected to the teaching strikes at Newcastle University.
As a third year and final student, having started my degree in 2019, my entire degree education has been disrupted. 18 months of online learning has caused immense confusion and uncertainty. The University and College Union (UCU) have voted to undertake industrial action at Newcastle University this semester and are striking for 9 days across 3 weeks. 3 weeks of disturbances, 3 weeks of interruptions. In our final semester (considered one of the most important and stressful periods of our degree as said by my own professors) I think it's appalling that our professors and staff are abandoning us again. After 6 weeks of strikes in my first year followed by 18 months of online learning, I'm sure we've all had enough. That amounts to almost 20 months of interrupted learning over the course of a 3-year degree, this simply cannot be allowed.
Third year student's should be exempt from the UCU strikes in February and March in order for us to retain our valuable contact hours to complete our final year without further disruption.
