STOP THE DEMOLITION
Iconic, unique and much loved, Odeon Cinema, Newcastle upon Tyne, originally the Paramount Cinema, Art Deco building built in 1931.
Due for demolition 1st November 2016 (date only made public 12th October 2016).
Left to decay and neglected for almost 15 years, whilst, smaller commercial cinema (Tyneside Cinema) opposite has been constantly funded.
Prevent tearing down historic and culturally important building, there have been too many iconic places lost to over-saturated shops/bars/restaurants and/or student accommodation in Newcastle City Centre.
SAY NO TO CULTURAL VANDALISM.
Multi Media Centre - Creative Industries
1.Redevelop into state of the art Cinema/Cross platform venue.
Screen classic films from Cinema's rich history. Host live shows, music, comedy etc.
2.Create multi media cross platform, in house production facilities: Filming/Editing/Sound/Post Production.
3.Incorporate, smaller venue, bar, restaurant, within the building displaying Film/Music Memorabilia.
4.Run courses in conjunction with Education, vocational training bodies. Host Film Festivals based on merit not money.
5.Exist as a functioning business as well as a place of learning, create employment, appeal to Tourist Industry.
Please note: Despite popular belief, the Tyneside Cinema does not function with the proposals stated above.
It is a subsidised commercial cinema.
