Newcastle City Council is consulting on a planning application to build 45 houses and a children's home on the West Denton Community Association. 

Although the community were opposed to any development on the site, they believed the Leader of Council when he promised to find a balance between housing, facilities for the community and decent open space. Despite the promise from the Leader of Council to the local community, most of the field and open space will be lost in the proposed development and the community will have access only to an urban drainage system for open space on the site. 

We need more not less open space in the Outer West to offset the additional traffic created by the housing developments. 

The council stopped maintaining the site, installed traffic lights on Hillhead Road and made changes to the West Denton Community Association car park which many residents believe were designed to support this development. The Leader of Council admitted that the council were working closely with Tolent on the plans.

We believe the actions of the council have made it impossible for the planning committee to approve the planning application as their actions in putting in place the infrastructure in advance of the development is showing apparent bias in favour of the planning application and effectively the planning application has been been predetermined.   

We the undersigned believe that Newcastle City Council should reject the planning application and instead improve the West Denton field to become the a high quality facility for local people.
