Linh Truong started this petition to Newark Unified School District and

Ohlone College Connections on the Newark Campus has been combating with the Newark Unified School District and Newark Memorial High School for a few years, on how the OCC program is structured and how it should work. Due to NUSD and NMHS carelessness, Juniors taking US History do not have a teacher to teach the subject. All the students taking that class failed the first semester due to the school district's mismanagement. This has spread to the Ohlone College Connections students because our teacher is now being forced to cut down our class schedule in order to teach another history class for High School.

Unfortunately, we are undergoing a new schedule that takes away two and a half hours of our precious time to focus not only on our high school curriculum, but time to study for our college courses which are far more rigorous than the courses taught at Memorial. In addition, our teacher was informed that she could no longer help us with our FAFSA, Scholarship, and College Applications, because its “not her job” and they do not pay her for it. They pay the counselors at Memorial for this task, not Mrs.Nations.

We students at Ohlone Connections feel that NUSD has abandoned us with our journey for a greater education by taking away our main support for college readiness. As a school, it is their main priority to provide their students with the best and most comprehensive education, but by allowing this drastic change which will not only take away time and access to Mrs. Nations, it will also create an environment for the OCC Cohort of 2020 where we feel neglected and disregarded by our School District.

This petition is to request from The Board the following:

We want our original Ohlone-Hybrid schedule
We want Mrs. Nations to remain our instructor and advisor
We find it necessary for an alternate educator for the 11th. Grade History course at the High School
We want recognition for the OCC program as a College Readiness Program and to be respected as a viable and essential alternative to traditional Senior Curriculum
