FREE Left turn on Red permitted after stopping

With traffic volumes increasing daily on Auckland roads and infrastructure failing to keep up with demand, we need to be more economic and efficient where we can to keep traffic moving.

I propose we adopt a similar rule as that from Australia which states:

"Left Turn on Red Permitted after Stopping
This is allowed only where there is a sign stating Left Turn on Red Permitted After Stopping. If there is such a sign, you can turn left before the traffic lights change to green - but only after stopping at the stop line and making sure it is safe to do so and giving way to all other vehicles and pedestrians."

This rule is similar also in most of North America (however, obviously a right turn on red)

I propose the following rule:

"Left Turn on Red Permitted after Stopping"
Left turn on Red approved at all lights apart from those displaying "No left turn on Red" signage (or similar). You can turn left before the traffic lights change to green - but only after stopping at the stop line and making sure it is safe to do so and giving way to all other vehicles and pedestrians.

I feel New Zealand and in particular, Auckland needs this initiative which is a CHEAP and COST EFFECTIVE positive contribution to peoples daily lives.

Please share and promote something positive for the Auckland/NZ traffic situation.
