Bring Peace to Taupiri - Limit Heavy Vehicle Engine Braking In Taupiri with MORE signs!
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
We, the Taupiri residents (living either side of the Railway over-bridge, the Residents living North & South of the round-about joining SH1 and SH1B, and the Residents of the homes aligning SH1B heading south along SH1B) have taking the full brunt of the heavy vehicles engine braking constantly, at any hour of the day or night. This has increased significantly since the opening of the new expressway to Hamilton.
We would like to have more signs errected, making it unmissable for offending drivers, making them aware the area PROHIBITS ENGINE BRAKING.
We currently have one sign that is on a bad sweeping corner, and one that is unseen/ignored on the bridge itself. Should errecting more signs fail, we would like to request the trial of an engine braking camera as trialed in Tauranga. And yes, I have requested someone contact me regarding this trial, but I have had no response.
These drivers are breaking a bylaw, and NO-ONE is helping us!
Sub-clauses 7.4(1) and (3) of the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 state:
(1) A driver must not operate a vehicle that creates noise that, having regard to all circumstances, is excessive.
