There are more than 50,000 tourists hunkering down in New Zealand at the moment; only 3000 left the country after lockdown ended [1]

It is further noted that; These were people in New Zealand on a Visitor Visa, which allows them to stay for up to nine months but does not allow them to work. The figure also includes people travelling to New Zealand on a visa waiver agreement. [1]

This created a situation where these visitors are unable to get an income while stuck in New Zealand; as even the lowest income labor jobs requires a working-visa.

Most of them are stuck in New Zealand approaching one year now and due to no income, they won't even be able to go back to their own countries even if the New Zealand borders re-open. Relief flights are few and far between.

We request the New Zealand government to issue a special category Permeant-Resident (PR) pass that allows these visitors to work freely any jobs they can get in New Zealand, without the restrictions imposed by a visitor-visa or a work-visa.

This "special category" PR will not entitle them for any benefits of a regular PR except the freedom to work and earn an income.

These visitors are not expecting a "hand out" from the New Zealand system by becoming a PR; they are just wanting to earn a living so they can resume their lives and eventually have enough dignity and income they deserve to go back to their own country when the time is right.
