URGE NZ Government to call on India to withdraw forces and stop REPRESSING Kashmir

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

Currently millions of Kashmiris are on lockdown in their own homes, with the Indian army being ordered to shoot them on sight if they step out.

India is invading Kashmir which it already occupies.

38,000 heavily armed military officers with tanks have been brought into Kashmir in the last couple of days. This is despite the fact that Indian-occupied Kashmir is the most militarized zone in the world: There is now over 700,000 Indian soldiers in Kashmir.

Here is what is happening right now:

- Internet service in Kashmir has been blocked by India
- India has closed down all media in Kashmir
- No journalist is allowed by India to enter Kashmir
- India has shut down all cell phone and landline service
- The Indian government has evacuated all tourists and Hindus
- India is changing its constitution to allow this annexation of Kashmir, which until this week, had special status

The UN Report on Kashmir, published in June 2018, has already recognised gross human rights atrocities in Indian Administered Kashmir, including:

Killings, Torture, Rape & Gang Rape, Excessive use of force, Illegal Draconian Laws, Enforced Disappearances, Use of Pellet – Firing Shot Guns, Arbitrary Arrests and Detention including Minors

“It is a conflict that has robbed millions of their basic human rights and continues to this day to inflict untold suffering.”

Kashmiris have been fighting for democracy, implementation of UN resolutions, self-respect, honour, dignity and Indian misrule for over 70 years (from 1947). Today India continues to rule Kashmir undemocratically, oppressively, illegally and forcibly.

During this period approximately 200,000 civilians have been killed, thousands of women raped or widowed, thousands of children have lost one or both parents and millions of dollars of properties have been destroyed.

We, the friends of Kashmir in NZ, and NZers of Kashmiri origin, urge the NZ Government to call on India to withdraw it's troops and to stop this repression! Without swift action many more lives will be lost!
