Chloe Walker started this petition to New Zealand Government

Currently in New Zealand we get subsidised doctors' visits and free hospital care. But turn 18, and most of us spend the rest of our lives either paying through the mouth for dentists or suffering the consequences.

We need to show the government that our teeth are suffering because we only go to the dentist when we can't put up with the pain anymore: Only 40% of us go for checkups.

The only government help is a $300 emergency grant for urgent dental treatment. You are only allowed 1 per year, and you have to earn under $29,895.32 for an individual or $43,422.08 for a couple. So even if you qualify for it, what can be done for $300? Not much, so the tooth is usually extracted. Then it's gone forever.

Even families with both parents working can't afford to go to the dentist.

There are even charities paying for treatment for individuals!

We know the government can't afford to give us free dental care but we need them to step in and subsidise for all adult New Zealanders.

I'm hoping with enough signatures we can get the attention of mps and get a national discussion going that could lead to legislation.
