David Martin started this petition to New Zealand Government

Considering the definitions of the newly-introduced Traffic Light System (TLS) we urge the New Zealand government to review its current policy of imposing a level of constraint on the population of the South Island of New Zealand which we argue is unnecessary given the current situation.

We believe that the orange level, applicable to when there is widespread community transmission of the COVID virus, should not be applied to the South Island. There is very little evidence, indeed if any evidence, that there are current identified cases. Bearing this in mind, we would argue that there is no justification in imposing green level restrictions on this population.

We are aware of the need to be vigilant but these current measures are imposing unnecessary burdens and restrictions on individual freedoms, business operations and community events. We love the places and the island where we live and want to support local businesses and events without fear of contravening these draconian policies. We demand the freedom to be able to travel and come and go in our localities.

So, we  demand that the New Zealand government reduce the level, and even consider not even applying, the TLS to the South Island with immediate effect.
