Make the New Zealand Government Replace Plastic Bags with Corn Starch Bags

We are a group of girls from Wellington Girls' College in New Zealand, and we want the New Zealand Government to replace non-biodegradable single use plastic bags with biodegradable corn starch bags. This is important because single use plastics are ruining our environment by killing our marine life species as well as our beautiful Aotearoa ocean life.
As you know, shops such as Pak'nSave, The Warehouse and Countdown have placed a new rule that all plastic bags now cost an additional 10 cent fee in an attempt to reduce the use of single-use plastics ruining our marine life and on-land environment. However, this ten cent fee will not fix all of our problems.
We want the New Zealand Government to replace non-biodegradable single-use plastic bags with degradable corn starch bags, as these will be far better for the environment.
It has been proven, that there is more plastic floating in the ocean than there is stars in the sky; and there are 100 trillion stars in outer space. It is estimated that there are roughly 224 plastic pieces the size of a twenty cent coin inside each sea turtle. This is an issue that needs to be changed, because as of the near future this is only to get even worse.
Only 5-10% of our plastic waste gets recycled, while the other 90-95% ends up in our oceans and landfills. Plastic pollution comes from five main countries: China, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand, with New Zealand not that far off on joining the list of most polluting countries.
We urgently need to fix this issue, as our marine life is a huge aspect of Aotearoa, what are we going to do when it's all gone due to all this plastic invading the oceans of NZ?
Which is why we want you to take part in the Pātara Challenge: a challenge where we want you not to buy non-reusable bottles for one week. We've tried the Peke Challenge, which went well. But now we want you all to try our Pātara Challenge. Non-reusable plastic bottles make a huge impact on the ocean, so we challenge you to not buy a non-reusable plastic bottle.
Thank you for signing, and making a change to our environment.
