While the world faces the impact of Covid many countries are allowing the citizens the ability to return home. In this case New Zealand lags behind the world with a draconian allocation system that has nowhere near the capacity to deliver to the needs of Kiwis overseas wanting to use the legal right to return to their own country.

Kiwis are now waiting up to 5 months to secure a "place" to return and in many cases waiting does not help, when new places are opened they are filled up in seconds. Many stories exist of people waiting for hours, days, weeks at the computer to secure a place only to see it not eventuate. This is keeping loved ones apart, families separated and people in need becoming desperate to return to Aotearoa.

The request in this petition is the New Zealand government to do the following

1) Immediately increase the number of rooms available for returning residents and citizens - this needs to double for a 6 month period to alleviate the congestion

2) Change the "allocation" system to align with the Australian model where the booking is based on the Flight booked not "I may get a flight" system and ensure people cannot profit of the needs and rights of Citizens wanting to return

3) Respect the human rights of New Zealanders abroad to not be marginalised for commercial reasons- rugby players, film companies, and even the "Wiggles"
