In 2019, the Dalton School began plans for the construction of a Green Roof including bringing in architects to draw up blueprints on the 550 roof space, previously used for Environmental science classes and garden clubs. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, unfortunately, this project had to come to a stop. Since the funding and resources are all available and school has begun in-person again, we are hoping to resume this project over the summer and the course of the next school year. This roof will benefit students' education through learning about plants and climate change but will also help reverse climate impacts around the area. With so many plants and forestation, this will be a step in removing carbon dioxide from our atmosphere. In contrast to a normal roof, green roofs are veritable ecosystems in the sky. According to drawdown.org, they may support a simple carpet of hearty, self-sufficient groundcover such as sedum; or they may sustain full-fledged gardens, parks, or farms.
