Removal of the 2020-2021 NYU Student Government Chairperson

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

On June 1st, 2020 in the wake of rebellions against white supremacist violence across the country, in the most recent update from the SGA Executive Committee they stated, “New York University has and will increase its Public Safety Liaison Program that exists between members of NYU Public Safety and the NYPD. It is the recommendation of the Student Government Assembly Executive Committee that an increased student presence in the liaison program be secured immediately, as this program is what allows NYPD to be familiarized with our campus and community guidelines.”

We are writing to demand the immediate resignation of Raj Kittusamy, NYU Student Government Chairperson, for his complete and utter failure to adequately address the concerns of the NYU student body. This includes, but certainly is not limited to the following:

- The SGA Executive Committee did not begin to draft a statement about last week’s uprisings in response to George Floyd’s murder until they were pressured via Twitter by the previous Chairperson, Jakiyah Bradley, on Friday, May 29.
- Current SGA Chairperson, Raj Kittusamy, has been at odds with student organizers and protecting their right to protest as recently as November 18 when he alerted administrators of a protest, prompting them to call the NYPD.
- Raj additionally has a track record of lying to students he is in communication with; Raj told people he was in contact with leaders of NYU’s Black Student Union (BSU) well before writing their statement which was published on Friday, May 29. However, the two co-presidents of BSU did not hear from someone on his team until 5:11 PM EDT on Friday, May 29.

Now, for the second time, the SGA Executive Committee has retracted their public statements without crediting those who pressured them into doing so. This demand for resignation calls for a decision to be reached by Thursday, June 4th at 5:00 PM EDT.
