The student body stands together in a strike against classes in the upcoming weeks. We understand that NYU has the obligation to provide a top-notch educational experience. However, given the terrible violence arising due to Trump's victory, students should be permitted to stand up against such injustices. Many students will be losing their healthcare, jobs, residence, bodily autonomy, safety, and much more in the upcoming months. Furthermore, this will exacerbate existing inequalities, making University an increasingly treacherous environment for many students.

Due to these violent changes, we are urging NYU's senior administrators to take a stand on behalf of the student body. We believe that students should be given generous leeway to complete all assignments and attend classes. We understand that this is a monumental and unprecedented decision to make, but we believe the gravity of this decision matches the gravity of our current climate.

In addition to giving this leeway on individual work, we believe the University should also extend the Pass/Fail policy from last Spring into this semester. This should include giving students the ability to choose the Pass/Fail option for all classes, including major and other degree requirements.

For students who are involved in in-person classes, work, and other on-campus activities, we believe that NYU should prioritize students' physical and mental safety by giving the option to continue all obligations and classes asynchronously.

We hope that the University understands the weight of our requests and how severe refusal to grant such leeway will be for many.
