The clergy real estate exemption has shifted millions of dollars of the real estate tax burden onto non clergy households each and every year. This causes an undue hardship onto millions of households because they are subsidizing these exemptions. The state legislature needs to fix this exemption. Currently clergy get a 1,500 exemption on their ASSESSED value which for many houses can be the total real estate tax bill. The legislature needs to fix this exemption.
