New York State Parks: Abandon plans to build a parking lot on a field in Seneca Lake State Park

Seneca Lake State Park is an oasis of green beside the deep blue of Seneca Lake. Generations have come to enjoy the park in their own way; the tall, old trees and expansive fields are inviting to all and exclusive to none. The proposed parking lot is neither needed (the field is surrounded by three other parking lots) nor wanted (local citizens and Geneva City Council have voiced their opposition on the record). If built, the new parking lot will serve one use (boat trailer parking) while eliminating a vast array of current and future uses (Musselman Triathlon transition area, sports tournaments, picnicking, play). Abandoning this project will preserve the green space for all to enjoy.

Letter to
Finger Lakes Parks Regional Director Kathie Notarfonzo
Deputy Commissioner for Finance and Administration Mindy Scott
NYS Parks Public Information Officer Randy Simons
Please abandon plans to build a parking lot over a grassy field in Seneca Lake State Park. The parking area is neither needed nor wanted, and it would eliminate a variety of current and future uses in favor of a single use (car and trailer parking). Infrastructure exists to serve this use, both within the park and next door in Lakefront Park. Green space is a blessing, and I oppose its loss.
