It's time to protect our children from the inside out

Since the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary school, where a gunman killed 20 first graders and six adults, there have been at least 239 school shootings, in which 438 people were shot, 138 of whom were killed. On average, there have been approximately 5 school shootings each month, including episodes not categorized as a mass shooting.  It is time to stop trying to prevent mass shootings and begin preventing the destruction of reality.  Shelbyville, Indiana is home of South Western High school, aka, the safest school in America.  Inside the walls of this school, teachers are equipped with emergency key fobs that set off a school-wide alarm and notifies local law enforcement during an active shooter event. Students can then barricade themselves inside a room with a locked, bullet-proof door. Another device allows for a teacher to tell law enforcement their classroom is safe, signal they need medical aid or ask for help if they've seen the suspect. With a live view of hallways, the county can see the shooter's movements and if necessary, launch what they call "hot zones." Dispatchers can shoot smoke out of cannons to distract and limit the visibility of the suspect in hallways.

The entire system was reported to cost $400,000. Net Talon, the Virginia security company behind the design, funded a large portion of the installation, with the rest coming from GRANTS from the Board of Education.

As of right now, there is one grant for Title 1 schools for a maximum of $50,000.  What about the other schools?  Since when did a monetary value get placed on the safety of our children?

This petition is to demand this GRANT be MANDATORY for all SCHOOLS in an effort to protect our innocent children and educators that are burdened with the daily reality of unexpected destruction.
