On June 27th, 2017 the former Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, decided that the bridge which has spanned the Hudson between Rockland and Westchester needed to be renamed and did not consult with the residents of the Hudson Valley. Given recent events, it is only right that the bridge be renamed. While there is an understandable drive to revert back to The Tappan Zee Bridge, we feel that there is a name more worthy of being honored.

On March 23rd, 2021 Rockland resident and Spring Valley volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd made the ultimate selfless sacrifice while rescuing multiple residents from a nursing home fire. Jared’s sacrifice enabled other people to have life. Jared exemplified community, volunteerism and selflessness and is someone that the whole state of New York should be proud to call one of their sons.

That is why we propose that the bridge be renamed The Firefighter Jared C. Lloyd Memorial Bridge. This way his name and his sacrifice will always be remembered. We can think of nobody more worthy.
