Mandate a 30 minute lunch for all high schoolers
Having been in high school myself and later working with high schools students in my early twenties I've noticed taking a lunch is not mandated. Students also cannot eat in many of their classes, and multitasking does not work according to John Medina. Employees in NYS are mandated to have lunch when working a full shift. High school students should be mandated to have a daily 30 minute lunch period. Skipping lunch during the adolescent years can be detrimental and effect: body image, behavior, school performance, athletic and musical performance, test results, emotional health, physical health, and promote eating disorders. High school students also need a break in their schedule in order to process the information given to them. According to John Medina, author of Brain Rules, high schools are structured in the least productive way for students to learn.
