Children and teens are getting hurt and damaging their bodies because of participation in sports. There is now a rising trend of specialization, meaning year-round play of the same sport which equates to a higher risk of injuries. Playing one sport continuously has shown to lead to overuse injuries which are caused by the repetitive motion of the same part of the body. Even with multiple sport athletes, the seasons overlap so there is not a proper rest period. Changing the way we used to deal with injuries will impact the community in a positive way by promoting safe play and keeping kids interested in playing multiple sports.
