Stop New Restrictions to Inmate Property - no winter scarves, no fresh fruit or veg!

NYSDOCCS will begin a pilot Secure Vendor Program at Greene, Green Haven and Taconic Correctional Facilities on December 04, 2017. The goals of the Department’s Secure Vendor Program are to offer a variety of food and articles at competitive pricing for inmates, their families and friends; while maintaining security, and providing an efficient operation. DOCCS intends on fully implementing the Secure Vendor Program statewide by the Fall of 2018.

Read Directive #4911A

- Food packages are limited to 8 lbs per package, 6 packages per month; that's six shipping charges a month.

- No fresh fruit or vegetables

- No towels, sheets, pillowcases

- Clothing colors limited to green, tan, white, and pink

- No winter scarves

- The secure vendors don't sell books, or have an extremely limited selection

- The secure vendors have already raised their prices (shoes and boots used to be capped at $50, as soon as they raised the allowance to $80, all the same shoes and boots jumped in price).

This policy is a burden on family and friends of prisoners and does not save time or add additional security. DOCCS should end this pilot program and should not implement the new Directive statewide.
