Join Us At These Important Events Regarding Our Fight To Save Lenox Hill!

Thank you for being part of our ongoing community-led effort to halt Northwell’s proposal to re-develop the block that currently is the main campus of Lenox Hill Hospital. As we continue our opposition efforts, we wanted to share updates regarding two separate but equally important events we thought members of the community should be made aware of. Both events are open to the public and we urge all interested parties to attend – overview and specific details provided below. Council Member Keith Powers Free Public Workshop on the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) Community members should join us in the upcoming event held by Council Member Keith Powers on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 6:00pm at the Robert F. Wagner Middle School (220 East 76th Street). The workshop will cover the basic of land use planning in New York City – participants will learn how the public can engage with lawmakers and regulators to have a say in the zoning changes in their respective neighborhoods. As we’ve shared in previous updates, Northwell’s proposal is at odds with the existing zoning laws of our historic Lenox Hill Neighborhood. Although Northwell’s proposal has not yet reached the ULURP stage, we need members of our coalition to attend events like this to let Council Member Keith Powers and other key players know that we don’t want Northwell’s proposal to ever get to ULURP. Manhattan Community Board 8 (CB8) Zoning and Development Committee Hearing We also wanted to urge members and supporters of the Committee to join us in the second upcoming and equally important event hosted by Community Board 8’s Zoning and Development Committee on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 6:30pm at the New York Blood Center Auditorium (310 East 67th Street). Community Board 8’s agenda outlines that members of the Community Board will provide updates on Manhattan Borough President and Council Member Keith’s Powers “task Force” meetings that Northwell Health and several representatives from our Committee have attended. Comments from the community are also found on the agenda. Community Board 8 voted in opposition of Northwell’s expansion of Lenox Hill Hospital on October 23rd by a 36-3 margin. To that end, it’s important members of the Committee attend Community Board 8’s hearing to show both our appreciation for their support and our continued efforts to oppose Northwell’s development.  SIGN, SHARE OUR PETITION AND STAY IN TOUCH! If you haven’t yet signed or shared the petition, please do so at your earliest convenience so we can continue calling on our elected officials to formally oppose Northwell’s scheme. Sharing the petition’s web link with your friends and neighbors will enable them to sign as well.
