New York City Schools Protest For Gun Control

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

Following the School Walkout on April 20th, we will head to COLUMBUS CIRCLE in protest against gun violence. Adults are welcome as well and we hope that Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Governor Andrew Cuomo and many more will consider coming and supporting us. Please wear orange and come be apart of this movement to let the government know that we need change now. Enough is enough. #NEVERAGAIN

On February 14th a school shooting took place at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people.
This school shooting is one of eighteen that has taken place thus far in 2018. If school shootings continue at this rate, by the end of 2018 there will have been almost 150 school shootings in the United States, yet no action is being taken to fix this problem. As students, we have had enough of hearing about the deaths of other kids but no initiative being taken to fix it.

We have to realize that this impacts the community significantly. Speaking on behalf of the student population of New York City, we can all think of a time when our school or another has received a gun threat. This implements fear into not only the students, but our parents and faculty as well. Why should we have to fear for our lives when going to school?
Between the years of 2001 and 2013, guns killed 409,496 people in America. In the past several years, the majority of the deadliest mass shootings in America involved the use of AR-15’s or similar assault-style rifles which were specifically “designed to kill efficiently.”  The use of these weapons are unnecessary and should not fall into the wrong hands.

Our request: gun control NOW. So far we students have done so much, including pressuring POTUS to call for bump stock ban and leading advertisers to leave the NRA. This should not be a debate between political parties, but rather basic human morality. EVERYONE should agree that the murder of innocent children is not right.

Our voice will be heard if we all stand together. “We are the students, we are the victims, we are change, fight gun violence now!”
