Friendly Dogs Of Greenpoint started this petition to New York City Department of Parks & Recreation

We petition the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to reinstate 9pm to 9am off-leash hours for dogs at Transmitter Park.

Dogs who are allowed regular time off-leash tend to be calmer, better trained, more socialized, less prone to aggression, healthier and add to the quality of life in their local communities. Greenpoint has one of the highest number of dog registrations in the city yet only one place where dogs are allowed off-leash, a dog run at McGorlick Park which is up to 1.5 miles away for some residents.

Until late summer 2018, dogs were permitted off-leash in Transmitter Park for years without significant issue yet the rules were changed without notice, consultation or explanation. Dog owners are both the most frequent users of Transmitter Park and its largest user group, visiting it in all seasons, times of day and weather. We care about our park and keeping it clean and safe for all users.

There are currently 72 designated off-leash areas in New York City Parks providing benefits to their local communities. The breadth and scale of off-leash areas throughout the city is evidence that it is not incompatible with, or at the exclusion of, other community uses.

We are not seeking NYC Parks to spend its limited funds installing a dog run, merely that it reinstates 9pm to 9am off leash hours for dogs at Transmitter Park.
