Why this petition matters

Started by Jenny Lee

The DeWitt Clinton dog run surface is poorly designed for our fur babies' paws. A high traffic dog run that is well known amongst the community for being abysmal. A dog run is a place that is literally meant to be a SAFE place for DOGS * TO * RUN. Our dogs' paws are already pounding NYC's pavement daily. Grass or soft walking surfaces are a rarity. Our only relief is our community dog run - but alas! It's hard asphalt! It also has random HOLES in the ground! Mind boggling. While we hope and pray our dogs' paws won't get hurt, that's like seeing broken glass all over the pavement and letting your child walk barefoot - then being surprised if they get cuts! That is stupid and irresponsible. Cut paws also lead to infections, and other complications that are totally avoidable. Why would anyone design a dog run that is unsafe for our dogs? Why can't our dog run be like others in NYC?

We are demanding a winter 2020 resurfacing so our dogs can run and play without risks. Whether it be sand/gravel mix, artificial grass, rubber padding, or super smooth concrete - make it safe! Also a new doggy pool with NO HOLES!

Examples of soft surface dogs runs include Morningside park, Washington Square, Union Square, Saint Nicholas, Riverside 72nd and 104th, Hillside dog park just to name a few.
